I'll cut to the chase, 74k miles on a E36 97' 328i with a 5MT and sport package.
Wait for it, $6,900 at my local porsche dealer. Might go check it out if the weather is nice this weekend.

I actually live in the Fairfax area, guess it isn't exactly "local" haha.

If that was closer to me, I'd look at it, put a deposit on it for ya if it all checked out.

Haha. I drove by last week. That dealership looks like a shithole right now.

Yeah it really went down the drain recently.
Although they do usually have some pretty cool cars in their inventory.

Yeah I'm in Fairfax county so it's a little bit of a drive, but if the car checks out it's a pretty good deal.

Yeah. I work in the opposite direction, but I make sure to cruise by at least once a month. They were renovating or something last time I checked, it really did not look like a nice place to be.

Why would you not M3 at that price point?

An E36 M3 for $6900 is gonna have well over double the mileage (not necessarily a bad thing) and it'll probably be beaten unless you find a good one.
Frankly I'd just save up for a little longer and buy an M3, but this is a great candidate for S/C'ing. It could even just be a reliable DD.

Yeah that is a clean example, but let me show you what a few hundred more would get you:

E36s of any engine are fairly stout and reliable cars, provided they've been cared for decently. Don't let the mileage fool you.

NP if history matches condition. Make sure you can afford some fixes, radio, AC etc, but I expect its a fun daily drive. If the car is as described, that three series is one of the great cars of its time, and they sure don't make them (light and nimble) like that now (at least not at $6900).
